Why you are seeking this position?

I am a highly motivated passionate Corporate Director of Supply Chain. Fifteen years on the job at both “For Profit” and “Not for Profit” hospitals. I have the experience, as I provide strategic leadership to and across multiple hospitals across multiple states.  Strategic guidance (planning) to our executive teams and physicians. Mapping out the future of what our “Board of Directors” will project and our front line leaders will manage to. I would be honored to bring my strategic guidance and experience to the AHRMM committees and organization, thus the whole healthcare industry.

How can you advance AHRMM's mission to advance healthcare through supply chain excellence?

Missions are accomplished through leadership and understanding. Leadership has to be nimble and flexible. Frontline has to have understanding. Utilizing planning and leadership AHRMM is well positioned to shape and form a strategic plan for healthcare at a national, regional, and local levels moving into the future. I am one of those leaders to accomplish AHRMM mission. I have directed small as well as large hospitals and now at the corporate level, knowing that you provide clear direction and achievable goals, through simple, repeatable and measurable direction then both the clinical and financial engines have success and growth can be maintained.

Identify 3 - 5 strategic priorities you think AHRMM should undertake and your reasons for identifying them as important.

1. Healthcare Reform - Hospitals will be paid significantly LESS – Planning and understanding the extremely complex, unknown and often unpredictable reform will be a major role in any strategic forecast. AHRMM needs to help shape this!

2. Standards - Example GS1. Industry wide adoption of standards that improve efficiencies of locally delivered services. AHRMM should be the engine that will help marshall all levels of standards into adoption for our industry.

3. Accountable Care - Setting and meeting certain quality & cost targets that allow our industry to continue or improve the quality of care while lowering cost!  Sustainability!

4. Leadership – Materials management! Involved (or should be) in every aspect of the healthcare industry. AHRMM must provide an avenue in which we can educate and be a resource to train every material manager to manage every aspect of there department. Having been a director of materials in four different hospitals before becoming a corporate director, I recognize that we must continue to elevate the materials profession in each facility by training and education to become part of the executive suite.

Identify your personal and professional qualities that will be valuable in the position for which you are being considered.

In these very challenging economics times, you look toward qualities like integrity, trustworthiness, open minded, helpful, professional and ethical behavior. These are all qualities that I exhibit both personally and professionally

How will you use these qualities to benefit AHRMM, the Board, and the members?

Fundamentally you will get a board member whose qualities make him a very caring, trustworthy, open minded professional who is here to help advance healthcare through supply chain excellence via education and professional development.

What do you expect to be your single, greatest contribution to AHRMM as a Board member?

Progressive development. AHRMM leadership is going through change, but the grass roots mission and vision remain the same. Through progressive development we can continue to bring education, leadership, networking, and cutting edge resources to AHRMM individual members. This will allow our members to continue to develop into executive team members and a true resource for the hospitals and communities we serve.

Describe one transformational experience in your professional life you have been involved with and what you have learned from this experience.

For 15 years I have had the privilege to watch our vital part of the healthcare industry transform. Through presentation of data I have been able to build a communication bridge between our physicians to our “C” Suite that has developed in our platform for strategic panning and development. This was accomplished though education and understanding. This was the foundation for Wellmont Health System Supply Chain becoming a “complete resource” for all Healthcare workers in our organization to look to for excellence. This folds greatly in to the AHRMM Mission, Vision, and Values.
