Why you are seeking this position?

I’m a very strong believer in giving back. Most of what I have learned about the healthcare supply chain has come from interaction and networking with supply chain professionals at the state and national level.  It’s time to pay that back and pass along my experiences to the next generation of supply chain leaders.

How can you advance AHRMM's mission to advance healthcare through supply chain excellence?

By continuing my professional education and remaining up to date on the latest trends in the healthcare supply chain, I can be a better/stronger voice and advocate for AHRMM and its mission.

Identify 3 - 5 strategic priorities you think AHRMM should undertake and your reasons for identifying them as important.

1. Single Voice: AHRMM must continue to provide the single voice of the healthcare supply chain professional.

2. Direction: AHRMM must provide the direction for the healthcare supply chain to meet the ever changing and technologically challenging requirements of the healthcare supply chain.

3. Education: It is imperative that we identify and source new and continuing education for supply chain professionals at all levels. AHRMM must ensure that it offers educational programs that are current, fresh and affordable.

4. Service: AHRMM is only as strong and successful as its volunteers. We must continue to encourage active participation of its members and recruit, recognize and reward the outstanding members who freely give of their time and skills to advance the vision, mission, and goals of AHRMM.

Identify your personal and professional qualities that will be valuable in the position for which you are being considered.

I am a self-starting team player with over 35 years of staff, committee, and leadership experience. Prior to joining the healthcare supply chain, I spent 20 years in the US Army where I developed tremendous organizational and team building skills, which have carried over to my volunteer work and daily job performance.

How will you use these qualities to benefit AHRMM, the Board, and the members?

Hopefully I will be able to help the Board become a stronger and even better organized team through my active participation. I will do that by leading by example and from the front.

What do you expect to be your single, greatest contribution to AHRMM as a Board member?

The Board must speak as one voice and I am skilled at consensus building and compromise.

Describe one transformational experience in your professional life you have been involved with and what you have learned from this experience.

I was recently participating in a conference call in my capacity as the Co-chair of the Medical Materials Coordinating Group with several members of a “think tank.”  I don’t remember the subject matter we were discussing, I simply remember that all of the sudden I was struck with just how much I didn’t know about healthcare supply chain activities within the U.S. and how they interact with each other. It was an eye opener. This experience taught me that no matter how long you are in the supply chain management field; there is always something new to learn. It also taught me that I need to be open minded and willing to accept that our chosen field is constantly morphing and that I need to be willing to change with it. I need to be a positive force for change and not think I know everything about our profession.
