About AHRMM
2011 George R. Gossett Leadership Award
The Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) has named Jamie C. Kowalski, CEO, Jamie C. Kowalski Consulting, LLC as the recipient of the 2011 George R. Gossett Leadership Award.
The Leadership Award is presented by AHRMM in memory of George R. Gossett, an early President of the Association. Gossett envisioned the prominence of resource and materials management in the healthcare field and championed the educational and professional development of the resource and materials management discipline. It is the highest honor bestowed by the Association, and is given to an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary level of leadership and professionalism in the field, made significant contributions to AHRMM, and advanced the healthcare supply chain.
Jamie was one of the pioneers in the initial group of individuals that ventured into the materials management consulting business when the industry began to evolve. When established, Kowalski-Dickow was a firm known to provide objective, full service consulting for an industry that was transitioning from central supply/purchasing to materials management and supply chain management.
According to AHRMM President, William Stitt, “Jamie Kowalski is a significant contributor to both AHRMM and the healthcare supply chain industry as a whole. Jamie’s consulting, as well as his participation in AHRMM has helped lift the industry and change materials management function from placing orders to critical components of a hospital’s ability to maintain a positive bottom line, and therefore, continue to serve patients.”
Jamie has worked with AHRMM (and the former ASHMM) to produce publications providing members with policies and procedures for all components of a materials management department's areas of responsibility. He has also composed, distributed, analyzed, and presented a survey of hospital CFO/CEO's on their views of their materials management departments and the perceived value those functions provide to the hospitals they serve. He has presented the results of these surveys year after year at the AHRMM annual conference providing participants with information they can use to promote their accomplishments at their facilities and focus on those items their leaders view as most important.
Jamie has been an active member of AHRMM both at local chapters and with the national organization. He has published numerous articles and books during his career. Jamie has achieved fellow status with many of the associations he participates in, including AHRMM and ACHE. In addition to being on several industry related Boards, Jamie is also the Co-founder and Chairman of the Bellwether League - an organization dedicated solely to recognizing leaders in the healthcare supply chain industry.
