Biographies

Deborah S. Karnick, RN MHA CNOR graduated in 1987 from Wilkes University Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

with a dual Bachelors degree in Nursing and Psychology. Furthering her education, in 1994 she graduated from the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania with her Masters in Healthcare Administration, with honors.

Deborah is currently employed with Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Binghamton, New York as the Director of the Surgical Service Line. Deborah concentrates on putting together a strong team that focus’ on increasing patient safety, patient satisfaction, and associate and physician satisfaction, while reducing expense. Deborah is a member of the America College of Healthcare Executives, AORN and American Nurses Association.  

 

Tom MacVaugh is well known throughout the healthcare industry for his broad base of knowledge and expertise for all aspects of resource utilization, shared services operations, organizational development, and expense management.  During the past thirty years, he has held direct management and executive leadership positions in nationally recognized healthcare provider organizations, associations and alliances, group purchasing and shared service entities, consulting and management firms, and educational and research enterprises.

Mr. MacVaugh has had numerous articles published in national and international healthcare journals and newsletters pertaining to a variety of management and leadership issues. He currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the publications, Healthcare Materials Management (HMM) and also Outpatient Care Technology.  In addition he serves on the national AHRMM Publications Task Force and the AHRMM Education Task Force. Tom is a frequent speaker and panelist at national and regional healthcare supply chain and leadership forums

He is a recipient of the Stan Costello Award from the Group Purchasing Group / Professional Society for Healthcare Group Purchasing; in recognition of his accomplishments in promoting the benefits of group purchasing in the healthcare industry. He has also received the Samuel M. Reese Award bestowed by the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Healthcare Resource and Materials Management for contributions to the materials management profession. In addition, he was a Founding Board Member of the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA), and he maintains active membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Healthcare Executive Forum (HEF), the Healthcare Financial Managers Association (HFMA), the Association of Healthcare Resource and Materials Managers (AHRMM), and the American Society of Healthcare Human Resource Administration (ASHHRA).
