Making Healthcare Reform Relevant to Supply Chain
Overview: The advent of healthcare reform has given rise to a myriad of initiatives to improve accountability and quality care. Chief among these initiatives are Accountable Care Organizations (ACO), which have varying definitions, but at their core, have basic goals of reducing costs, improving quality, and helping providers develop skills and resources in a collaborative fashion to serve patients. The main question for materials managers is determining how they can participate in the strategic process and how their expertise in value-based purchasing, understanding cost structure and cost drivers can significantly enhance their healthcare organizations’ delivery of care and becoming an ACO.
