AHMMA was well represented this year at AHRMM08 with eleven members attending, including four board members.  Everyone enjoyed the networking opportunities and educational sessions.  AHMMA was recognized as a Silver Chapter Affiliate in 2008.  We wish to thank all those who made this possible as we keep aiming for the Gold.

Board members for 2009 will be Patty Prior, President; Dorance Dillon, Past President; David Icenhower and Bill Johnson, Board Members at Large.  AHMMA will be taking nominations at its November 4th meeting for Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect for 2009.  All those interested please email patty.prior@bannerhealth.com.

Dave Cadaret and Wallis Hardie are the new Education Chairs and are very busy planning education events for next year. AHMMA has had education seminars this year on healthcare supply chain industry data standards and will be looking to add more education seminars regarding this hot topic in the future. At the last quarterly meeting we had a presentation by one of our members, Mark Willmore, who presented Purchasing Metrics: Measuring Buyer Resource Requirements.  Everyone found this informative and we will continue to work on this project as more information is available.  AHMMA is steadily growing and we are excited of what the future will bring.

Healthcare Supply Chain Network (HSCN)

The Healthcare Supply Chain Network Chapter in Toronto, Canada, would like to extend our congratulations to the AHRMM organizing committee on a very successful AHRMM08 in San Antonio. About 40 members of our chapter attended this year’s conference and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the educational experience and the networking opportunities. HSCN hosted a cocktail reception for our members in San Antonio which was another great opportunity to get together with our colleagues from across the country.

HSCN is busy planning for the AGM on November 4th, which will take place as part of the Ontario Hospital Association’s annual convention in Toronto. We are also in planning mode for the 2nd Annual HSCN Supply Chain Conference which will take place in Toronto the end of April 2009.

HSCN is proud to announce that two of our Board members are in the news:
Melinda Mui has released her new book, “Transformational Leadership: The Enhancement of Employee Commitment and Performance”. Melinda is the Corporate Director, Supply Chain with the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), Vancouver, B.C. responsible for all supply chain services at the PHSA and branch societies.

Mike Rosser, General Manager, Healthcare Materials Management Services accepts McKesson VIP award. McKesson’s 2008 VIP Award, won by HMMS of London, Ontario, honors McKesson customers that showcase vision and innovation in their use of information technology to improve patient safety, as well as the overall quality and operational efficiency of the healthcare system. An important part of this is the ability to redefine ways to better manage the patient care process and improve the economics of care. HMMS, established in 1997, is a joint venture between London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. HMMS combined supply purchasing and accounts payable operations for London hospitals and regional hospital affiliates totaling more than 3,000 beds and combined operating budgets of $1.5 billion. More recently, it set the standard for integrated healthcare supply chain management with an e-commerce and automation initiative that reduced operating costs, improved service levels and maximized efficiencies. Results include more than $2.2 million in savings, with annual cost reductions of $1.5 million. HMMS was one of four winners in the VIP Classic category.

Over 300 attended the NCAHRMM Spring 2008 Education Conference and Vendor Fair at the Hilton Riverside in Wilmington, North Carolina, May 18 through 21. Thanks to our vendor and hospital members who made this a record attendance. On Sunday, the golf tournament to support The Carolinas Hospice Center was well attended and provided time to relax and support this worthy cause.

To start the event on Monday, Oscar Robertson provided the keynote address. Educational topics included: Value Analysis; Materials Management Professionals, Growing Our Own; Washington Outlook; RFID Primer for Materials Management; and Disaster Preparedness. The closing event on Wednesday morning was, Is Your Bubble in the Middle, facilitated by Emory Austin.
