AHRMM Announces Carrig Re-appointed to HIBCC
CHICAGO, December 17, 2002 - The Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) of the American Hospital Association today announced that Theresa Carrig has been re-appointed to Health Industry Business Communications Council (HIBCC) board of directors. Carrig, who works for University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, is currently the Region 7 Representative on AHRMM's Board of Directors. This is her second term on the HIBCC Board, and she will serve through December 31, 2005.
"AHRMM firmly supports the use of automated electronic processing of business information and believes that standards are necessary to lend order to a potentially chaotic environment," said Al Cook, president of AHRMM. "Carrig's involvement in both HIBCC and AHRMM reflect the collaboration necessary to develop standards that work. The ultimate test will be when it is time to apply these standards in supply chain management, specific to health care."
HIBCC is an industry-sponsored nonprofit council which was organized by major health care associations in 1983. Founded to develop a standard for data transfer using uniform bar code labeling, HIBCC has become the focal point for many other electronic data interchange standards. The HIBCC board of directors, which oversees HIBCC operations and sets policy, is composed of individuals appointed by their member organizations, including the American Hospital Association. HIBCC's broad mission has consistently expanded to meet industry requirements in a number of critical areas, including electronic data interchange message formats, bar code labeling data standards, universal numbering systems, and the provision of databases which assure common identifiers.
