Overview: Resource & Materials Managers are faced with a daily need to negotiate time, resources, products, and purchases to maintain an efficient and effective environment. Without good negotiating skills, leaders may feel pressured and powerless to meet the expectations of their position. This session reviews proven techniques to strengthen negotiation skills. It starts with an introduction to different types of negotiation and focuses on developing skill in "win-win" negotiation. Discussion will include how to incorporate these skills and techniques into successful negotiation with staff, peers, vendors, and physicians.

David Kaczmarek, CMRP, FAHRMM
As Director, Wellspring Partners, Dave manages expense reduction and supply chain projects for hospitals and systems throughout the US. He has 25+ years experience in administration and healthcare supply chain management. Prior positions include Director of Materials Management positions at a variety of hospitals and healthcare systems and Executive Vice President, the McFaul & Lyons Group.
Dave is a frequent speaker on supply chain and professional development topics, author of the Healthcare Materials Management Policy and Procedural Manual, and has been published in a variety of healthcare magazines. He is a past AHRMM board member, a CMRP and FAHRMM.
Laura Wood, RN, MSN, CRCST
Laura Wood's clinical background includes administrative and clinical experience in Critical Care, Surgical Services, Cardiology, and Respiratory Therapy.
Working as a Consultant for over eight years with J&J and the McFaul and Lyons Group, Laura utilized her expertise to assist clients with the identification and implementation of all aspects of non-salary expense reduction opportunities as well as process improvement initiatives. As President of eXpense Management eXperts, Laura continues to provide non-salary expense reduction and process improvement to hospitals.
