Healthcare Leaders and Health Systems are Committed to SCMetrix™
CHICAGO February 19, 2008 The Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) of the American Hospital Association and the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU) announced today that several prominent health systems have committed their facilities’ data to the SCMetrix™ benchmarking program; AHRMM and ASU’s goal is to have 100 hospitals participate in SCMetrix™ by March 2008.
The SCMetrix™ online tool was developed by AHRMM and ASU last year in response to the healthcare industry’s request for a benchmarking program that would allow hospitals to benchmark their supply chain performance against other like facilities (similar size, scope of service, procedure, geographic location, etc.) within and outside of their own system.
“For years, professionals in the healthcare supply chain have asked AHRMM for assistance in benchmarking their facilities’ performance,” said AHRMM President Mary Ann Michalski. “Their message was loud and clear, ‘if you build it, we will come.’ AHRMM and ASU have built a solution and supply chain leaders have pledged their commitment. Now, we need secure commitments from the organizations. Much is made of healthcare lagging behind…this is our chance to get the information we need to drive best practices and efficiencies throughout the supply chain.”
The health systems that have committed to SCMetrix™ include:
- Lynn Conroy, Harrison Medical Center, Bremerton, Washington
- Becky Daniel, Texas Health Resources, Arlington, Texas
- Colonel Debra D. Franco, United States Military Health Systems, Washington, D.C.
- Preston Hall, Clarion Hospital, Clarion, Pennsylvania
- Jason Hardy, Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas
- Steven W. Huckabaa, Kettering Health Network, Dayton, Ohio
- Brent Johnson, Intermountain Healthcare, Salt Lake City, Utah
- John Mateka, Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center, Greenville, South Carolina
- Jay Kirkpatrick, HCA Nashville Supply Chain Services, Nashville, Tennessee
- Jean Sargent, University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky
- Beverly Slate, Quorum Health Resources (QHR), Brentwood, Tennessee
- James Smoker, WellSpan Health System, York, Pennsylvania
- Liz Veazey, Scottsdale Healthcare, Scottsdale, Arizona
- Jeffrey Wagner, MidMichigan Health, Midland, Michigan
- Dale Worthington, Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Illinois
“Over the past six months there has been significant interest in SCMetrix™ with hundreds of professionals participating in webinars hosted by AHRMM and ASU,” W.P. Carey School of Business Professor and Project Leader Vicki Smith-Daniels said. “This interest has been promising. In order for us to accrue the most value from these benchmarks, hospitals need to complete their first of 2007 data collection soon.”
She also notes that AHRMM and ASU are offering an added incentive to the first 100 hospitals that complete the uploading of their data into the system; each participating organization will receive a two-year, no-charge subscription to the program through 2009.
