Person with a heartHuman Trafficking and Forced Labor in the Health Care Supply Chain   - June 27

Human trafficking threatens the safety of individuals, communities, and health care organizations. It underscores the need for vigilance, as many patients are victims of this exploitative practice. Supply chain professionals must also remain alert and watch for signs of human trafficking. Victims of human trafficking often produce goods and supplies crafted through forced labor.  AHRMM recently collaborated with AHA leaders to devise effective ways to prevent human trafficking.

The AHA's Hospitals Against Violence initiative has been integral in developing essential resources for health care professionals. The AHA's American Organization for Nursing Leadership (ANOL) regularly informs members about how they can assist victims.   AHRMM focuses on preventing forced labor in the supply chain, which places health care organizations at risk.

AHRMM has participated in regional meetings and discussions to inform hospital leaders about supply chain issues related to human trafficking. These issues include:

·The use of children or others working against their will to produce medical products, including the raw materials and base components.

·The employment, often under contract, of individuals who may be victims of human trafficking. As workforce challenges increase, there has been a significant rise in this type of exploitative labor.

You can learn more about this issue at the  AHRMM23 Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, August 6-9. Supply chain leaders and individuals from the regulatory and legal sectors nationwide will gather to discuss how to address forced labor and the dangers of human trafficking. They will also work to identify ways to secure a safe local, national, and global supply chain. Professionals that attend this AHRMM23 can connect, create safety goals, and ensure their supply chain models include ways to prevent human trafficking.

Smiling business manHow AHRMM Can Help You Address Back-orders, Shortages, and Other Supply Chain Challenges - June 9

Supply chain leaders ensure high-quality patient care by efficiently delivering essential medical devices and products. The landscape they navigate is often dynamic, constantly evolving, and fluid. They manage many different long-standing issues and concerns, including disruptions, back-orders and shortages. AHRMM strives to support these professionals with the latest information, enriching courses and content, and updates regarding national policies that help to address many of the challenges they face.

One of the many ways that AHRMM ensures supply chain support and resiliency is through its Supply Chain Resource Council (SCRC). More than 80 members from diverse supply chain sectors comprise the Council. Each month, they meet and discuss critical issues within the health care supply chain, along with innovative and cutting-edge solutions.

For example, the group recently examined shortages in tourniquet cuffs; recalls of specific CPAP machines; the EPA's proposed rules around ethylene oxide and sterilization facilities; and the Joint Commission seeking input on new sustainability requirements.

The Council generates reports based on these vital deliberations and the latest information on supply chain disruptions. These reports are available for viewing on the AHRMM website. AHRMM also dispenses this information to supply chain thought leaders and policymakers.

As part of the American Hospital Association, AHRMM has a broad reach and collaborates with various agencies, including the White House Response Team, AHA policy leaders, and other federal organizations. By tapping into the expertise of AHRMM members while amplifying core messages, AHRMM works to keep the field informed and advocates for policies supporting supply chain resiliency.

Stay up-to-date about changes and advances in the health care supply chain, by reading the online SCRC reports and take advantage of great AHRMM membership benefits. This includes weekly e-newsletters, informative webinars, and talks regarding emerging trends.
