Inventory and Distribution Management 

Imagine your health care facility without proper supply movement and inventory control: Supplies would be lost or unavailable, staff would be without the resources and equipment necessary to execute their responsibilities, and patients would be at risk.
Proper logistics and inventory control is the solution. When done efficiently, benefits include high levels of customer satisfaction, minimal need for clinicians to be involved, low levels of inventory investment, improved use of technology, low total cost of managing inventory, and reduced waste.
 

Format: This program is a 4-week virtual cohort from August 4-August 29. It includes 4 live sessions (1-hour weekly presentations, that will also be available on-demand). 

Continuing Education: Completing this program earns 6 CECs - applicable for ACHE credits. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Describe various types of inventories
• Explain inventory valuation and methods
• Describe inventory turns, impact factors and turns by department
• Examine ways to ensure enough supplies are on hand without using excess cash and human resources, including reorder point, reorder quantity, and min/max
• Discuss different methods of inventory control and inventory positioning strategies
• Identify best practices of effective receiving, three receiving methods and documentation
• Identify supply distribution functions, internal and external distribution and system considerations including automation and logistics best practices
• Describe methods to return, recall, or exchange inventory
• Recognize the importance of warehouse layout, safety, and operations
