Description

Considering the rise of environmentally-related concerns throughout the globe, health care sustainability leaders stress the need for change within health care supply chain. In this interactive session, presenters will discuss the importance of embracing and implementing sustainability efforts within your organization and how to get started. Learners will walk away with a thorough understanding of supply chain’s role in climate change, how environmentally-conscious decision-making can lead to improvements in budgeting and future purchases (such as using a modified total cost of ownership approach), and a list of the attributes and characteristics of products that are environmentally preferred. In addition, presenters will educate attendees about the resources that are often ignored but should be taken advantage of so organizations don’t recreate the wheel.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define sustainability and identify supply chain considerations as part of an organization’s sustainability efforts, including how to use a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)  approach, along with AHRMM's Cost, Quality, and Outcomes initiative to help you set goals and align measurement targets.
  • Define Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP), including product attributes and characteristics for contract negotiations.
  • Explain the importance of embedding sustainability-related commitments in policy in and across your organization.
  • Utilize sustainability-related resources learned during the session and consider leading practices as you work with your GPO and vendors to implement programs efficiently and effectively.
  • Recognize the supply chain's contribution to climate change and consider concepts about scope 1,2, and 3 emissions.
