YPAC Qualifications and Eligibility

 

Qualifications for applying for a seat on AHRMM’s Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC). The YPAC purpose is to connect, engage and represent young professionals and students in the health care supply chain profession, and advise AHRMM on programs and policies as they relate to early careerists. The YPAC functions in two capacities – as an advisory group and as a committee.

General Member

While most day-to-day operations are executed by AHRMM staff, the appropriate involvement of YPAC members is both critical and expected.

Candidates must be national AHRMM members
- and -
Age 35 or younger

The following are preferred guidelines for application:

Candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and three years’ experience working in supply chain or health care.
- or -
Candidates who have a high school diploma and seven years’ experience working in supply chain or health care.

AHRMM seeks to have balanced representation on its national council, therefore, the following criteria will be taken into consideration during the vetting* process:

  • Area of supply chain expertise
  • Health care supply chain experience
  • Managerial or leadership experience
  • Type of facility/company
  • Health care supply chain setting (provider, supplier, distributor, GPO, consulting, etc.)
  • Region
  • Race, ethnicity, gender, if offered

*Because the composition of the YPAC will change from year to year, the criteria are not weighted.

Application Process

Those individuals who meet eligibility requirements and wish to apply for a seat on the council may

and submit it to AHRMM via email. Applications will be reviewed and vetted by a 4-person panel comprised of AHRMM’s Chair-Elect, the YPAC Chair and Vice Chair (voting positions), and supported by AHRMM’s Field Engagement Specialist (non-voting position).

Finalists will be asked to participate in a web or phone-based interview with panel members.

Chair

The YPAC Chair provides direction and leadership to YPAC members, works closely with AHRMM staff and the board liaison to carry out the group’s stated priorities, plans and facilitates YPAC meetings and represents YPAC at local and national events as needed. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Direct short and long term planning of the YPAC.
  • Lead and organize monthly YPAC meetings (dictate agenda, background materials, etc.), including aiding the group in adhering to the agenda, managing meeting time and flow and ensuring professional interaction between all participants and presenters with support of the AHRMM staff liaison.
  • Select new council members, assisting with candidate screening and providing recommendations on finalists.
  • Consult with AHRMM staff liaison for input on YPAC administrative matters.
  • Participate in an ongoing dialog with the staff and board liaisons on how to best work together.
  • Provide leadership to general members of the YPAC.
  • Ensure all members are engaged and productive members of the committee.
  • Follow up with any council member who may experience issues with participation, attendance or conduct.
  • Advocate for YPAC priorities, represent YPAC at AHRMM functions.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Current AHRMM member.
  • 21 – 35 years of age.
  • Significant leadership experience.
  • Results-oriented individual.
  • Demonstrates exemplar behavior and sets high expectations of YPAC members.
  • Understands and has a passion for the work of YPAC.
  • Preferred – Bachelor’s degree or higher and three years’ experience working in supply chain or health care, OR a high school diploma and seven years’ experience working in supply chain or health care.

Council Terms/Participation

The YPAC Chair is elected by the YPAC from within its ranks; candidates for Chair must be current YPAC members. The Chair serves a one-year term, after which he/she will remain on the YPAC for one year as Past Chair. Council meetings are held via conference call monthly; additional meetings/council work may be required for YPAC projects and initiatives on an ongoing basis.

Vice Chair

The YPAC Vice Chair supports the Chair in providing direction and leadership to YPAC members, works closely with AHRMM staff and the board liaison to carry out the group’s stated priorities, and coordinates/oversees the work of YPAC subcommittees toward that end. The Vice Chair facilitates YPAC meetings in the Chair’s absence, and acts as interim Chair should the Chair resign or need to step away from his/her duties for a limited time period*. The Vice Chair may also be called upon to represent YPAC at local and national events as needed. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist in directing short and long term planning of the YPAC.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of YPAC subcommittees.
  • Run monthly YPAC meetings when the Chair is unavailable.
  • Act as Interim Chair if the Chair resigns mid-term or requests a leave of absence*.
  • Select new council members, assisting with candidate screening and providing recommendations on finalists.
  • Provide leadership to general members of the YPAC.
  • Ensure all members are engaged and productive members of subcommittees, as needed.
  • Advocate for YPAC priorities, represent YPAC at AHRMM functions, as needed.
  • *The Vice Chair will assume the Interim Chair role/extra duties for no more than two months, by which time the Chair will resume his/her duties or (in the case of resignation) the YPAC will elect a new Chair from within its ranks.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Current AHRMM member.
  • 21 – 35 years of age.
  • Experience leading groups or initiatives.
  • Results-oriented individual.
  • Understands and has a passion for the work of YPAC.
  • Preferred – Bachelor’s degree or higher and three years’ experience working in supply chain or health care, OR a high school diploma and seven years’ experience working in supply chain or health care.

Council Terms/Participation

The YPAC Vice Chair is elected by the YPAC from within its ranks; candidates for Vice Chair must be current YPAC members. The Vice Chair serves a one-year term; renewable for an additional term based on YPAC vote. YPAC meetings are held via conference call monthly; additional meetings/council work may be required for YPAC projects and initiatives on an ongoing basis.

 

Service on YPAC is without remuneration (reimbursement will be issued for AHRMM pre-approved activities).
